Hicklin knocked down his first five shots, including four three-pointers, while scoring 14 of the team’s first 24 points. He hit three straight three-pointers over a span of four possessions in the second half to finish his career night. The seventh-ranked Pointers avenged a loss to Edgewood last year and improved to 66-5 in their last 71 games against non-conference opponents.
UW-Stevens Point used a 9-0 to take an early 11-4 lead. Edgewood hung within 10 points for most of the first half before the Pointers closed the half with another nine-point run for a 33-15 halftime lead.
The Pointers extended their spurt with four straight points to start the second half and take a 37-15 advantage. Hicklin’s seventh three-pointer gave UW-Stevens Point its largest lead of the game at 50-25 with 13:22 remaining.
Edgewood, which fell to 2-4 overall, shot just 40.9 percent for the game in the lowest point total by a UW-Stevens Point opponent since a 79-45 win over Lawrence in the 2005 NCAA Division III tournament.
Jon Krull scored 10 points and Bryan Beamish had eight points for the Pointers, who had just eight turnovers and shot 43.1 percent from the field with 10 three-pointers. UW-Stevens Point grabbed 17 offensive rebounds and outrebounded the Eagles 37-26.
Edgewood committed just six personal fouls in the game and was led in scoring by Charlie Averkamp with 12 points. Evan Klees scored 11 points off the bench.
