Andy Hurley and Ryan Kroeger scored 15 points apiece to pace the Vikings, and Hurley added a team-high six rebounds. Chris Page added 12 points, and Ben Rosenblatt had 10 for Lawrence (0-1). Jon Krull scored 25 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to pace the Pointers (2-0).
The Vikings struggled for the first 30 minutes in their season opener. Lawrence trailed 42-28 at the half, and Stevens Point built that edge to 18 points with 17:18 left in the game. The Vikings were down 61-45 after Matt Moses converted a three-point play with 10:14 left.
The Vikings then went on a 12-0 run over the next 4:36 to trim the lead to 61-57 with 5:32 remaining. Tommy Schmidt, making his first career start, scored seven points in that stretch.
Krull made a pair of free throws to stop the bleeding for the Pointers, but Lawrence kept coming back. Rosenblatt hit a 3-pointer with 2:03 left to cut the lead to 66-65. Following a Krull layup, Hurley converted a pair of free throws to trim the lead back to one at 68-67 with 56 seconds left.
After Krull missed a jumper, Schmidt collected the rebound and the Vikings called timeout. Page got the ball down low, but his layup rolled off the rim, and Pete Rortvedt nabbed the rebound for the Pointers. He was fouled and made both free throws to seal the win.
Hurley\'s long pass down the court was intercepted by Krull as the buzzer sounded.
Lawrence returns to action this weekend when they play Wisconsin Lutheran and Concordia (Wis.) at the Concordia Tournament.
