Lynchburg 92, Averett 80

Indianola, Iowa — Loras (3-1) defeated Simpson (2-1) 84-68 in the Iowa Conference opener for both schools Nov. 28 in Indianola. Simpson led 33-32 at halftime, but Loras outscored the Storm 23-11 in the first 9:08 of the second half to take an 11-point lead. Simpson called timeout at the 11:52 mark and responded with a 9-0 run that was capped off by a Ryan Hittenmiller jumper to make it 57-55 with 9:00 to go. The Duhawks scored the next six points to take a 63-55 lead, but Simpson rallied cutting the lead to one, 67-66 with 4:40 remaining. Loras used one final run, 15-0, to put the game away down the stretch. A series of foul shots down the stretch made it the final 16 point margin.

All five Duhawks’ starters scored in double figures, led by Brian Centella who was 7-of-11 from the floor on his way to 18 points. Kyle White posted a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Slater had 16 points while Scottie Braden had 13. Jake Oeth scored 12 for Loras who saw only a total of seven players record a point during the contest. Hittenmiller led all scorers with 23 poitns. Jason Parkinson scored 11 for the Storm. Despite being limited by foul trouble, Simpson center Jason Soppe scored 10 points and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds.
