Senior wing Tyler Westman (Mankato, Minn./Loyola) led the Johnnies in scoring with 19 points including shooting 3-of-5 behind the arc and perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Aside from Westman, four other Johnnies tallied double-digits in scoring, including junior Ryan Lieser (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) with 14, senior Matt Ohme (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) with 13, senior Craig Schafer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) with 12 and junior Jason Fogt (Askov, Minn./East Central) with 10.
The Johnnies shot 64.6 percent while the Gusties shot 46.8 percent in the contest. SJU also out-rebounded GAC, 36-14 and outscored the Gusties 50-22 in the paint.
Phil Sowden led Gustavus in scoring with 18 points including 2-of-3 behind the 3-point line.
Saint John’s (15-4, 13-1 MIAC) will travel to face Bethel on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Arden Hills. Gustavus (10-9, 8-6 MIAC) will play host to Saint Mary’s on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a 1 p.m. tip-off in St. Peter.
