Dubuque, Iowa — For the second consecutive game a poor shooting start doomed Simpson as the Storm (7-5, 0-3 IIAC) dropped a 81-68 decision to Dubuque (6-4, 1-1 IIAC) Jan. 6 in Dubuque. The Storm shot 8-for-29 (27.6%) in the first half and trailed by 14 at halftime. The Spartans led by as much as 18 in the second half, but Simpson mounted a comeback, cutting the lead to 67-60 on a Ryan Hittenmiller layup with just under six minutes to go. Simpson could not convert on their next possessions as the Spartans increased the lead back into double digits. The Storm were forced to foul. As a result, the final eight Spartans’ points came from the free throw line which created the final 13 point margin of victory.

Jason Parkinson led all scorers with 27 points. Hittenmiller scored 23 points and led Simpson with eight reobunds. David Ferezy posted a season high 11 points. Nick Thomas led Dubuque with 24 points. Tyler Daugherty had 21 points and a game high nine rebounds. Jeremy Weaks scored 16 poitns while Norris Langford added 11 for Dubuque.
