The Eagles held Crown to just 9 points in the first half and just 4 made field goals in the opening twenty minutes of play. Northwestern jumped out to an 8-1 lead at the 15:45 mark and never looked back, boasting a 33-to-9 advantage at the midway point. Eagle senior guard Aimee Lind (Rib Lake, Wis.) and sophomore forward Marcy Nelson (Sandstone, Minn./East Central High School) each owned 10 points in the first half as both went 4-for-5 from the floor and 2-for-3 from three-point range in the first period. Northwestern shot 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from the field as a team in the opening half.
In the second half, the Eagles continued to roll as they opened up a 34-point advantage at one point late in the half before settling for the 59-29 conference victory. Northwestern cooled down shooting in the second half to just 36.4 percent, finishing the game making 22-of-49 (44.9%) from the floor, marking the second highest shooting percentage of the season. Crown’s 29 points marked the fewest points scored by an opponent on Northwestern this season as the Eagle’s pressure defense troubled the Storm throughout the affair. Crown connected on just 13-of-47 (27.7%) field goal attempts and only 1-of-14 (7.1%) from three-point range. Northwestern also boasted a 40-to-23 advantage on the boards.
For the second straight game, Aimee Lind lead Northwestern in scoring, setting a new personal season-high with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Marcy Nelson finished with 12 points and Jen Adamson (Fargo, N.D./Oak Grove High School) chipped in 10 points and 4 rebounds. Several members of the Eagle bench provided a spark including freshman Kayla Hendrickson (Willmar, Minn.) and freshman Ariel Leisch (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial High School). Hendrickson contributed 6 points and 4 rebounds, while Leisch tallied 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Crown College was paced by freshman Stephanie Zroka (Elk River, Minn./Rivers Christian Academy), who put in 12 points and added 4 rebounds along with 3 steals.
