Ursinus 93, Haverford 89

Decorah, Iowa — Luther (9-4, 4-1 IIAC) defeated No. 15/17 Simpson (11-3, 3-2 IIAC) 66-42 Jan. 12 in Decorah. Luther led 37-23 at halftime after holding the Storm to 39.1% shooting (9-for-23). The Norse pushed the lead to 16 (42-26) early on the second half, but Simpson rattled off the next eight points to cut the lead in half. That would be as close as the Storm would get as three consecutive Simpson turnovers led to seven Luther points. Luther would complete the rally on a 17-0 spurt to take a 61-34 lead. The Norse defense held the Storm without a basket for seven minutes during the run.

The Norse forced 25 Storm turnovers and held a 41-28 rebounding advantage (18-6 on the offensive glass. Luther’s Blair Ernst led all scorers with 20 points. Ernst shot 10-of-16 from the field. Ashley Tekippe scored 12 points, had nine rebounds, and four blocks.

Carlie Beals (Jr., West Des Moines, Iowa, Valley H.S.) led the Storm with 10 points. The 5-8 guard was the only Storm player to score in double figures. The victory broke a five-game Simpson winning streak over Luther. The 24-point margin of victory by the Norse was the largest for Luther over the Storm since 2000-01 when the Norse defeated Simpson 80-65.
