Indianola, Iowa — Laura Montague’s career high 14 points led No. 22/25 Simpson (14-3, 6-2 IIAC) to a 62-49 victory over Cornell College (6-9, 1-5 IIAC) Jan. 20 in Indianola. The 5-8 point guard tied the school record for highest three-point percentage in a game as she went 4-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc. Ashley Katch scored 13 points, blocked eight shots, and grabbed seven rebounds. With her eight blocks, Katch became Simpson’s all-time leading shot blocker with 181. The old mark was 175 set by Kimber Kennedy (1996-99). Katch, Division III’s leading shot blocker has 93 blocks this season.
Katelyn Whiton scored 12 points and had nine rebounds for the Storm. The Rams were led by Anna Skaggs who has 15 points, all from three-point range. Skaggs was 5-of-6 in three-point attempts. Val Marean had 11 for Cornell including three three’s. It was the three-point shot that brought Cornell back into the game. After trailing by as much as 19 in the second half, the Rams were down 11 with four minutes to go, but the Storm allowed only one Cornell field goal down the stretch.
Simpson is back in action Tuesday night at Wartburg. The game will be played in West Gym on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. Gametime is 6 p.m.
