Neither team has a senior on its roster and Benedictine has just three juniors. There were a combined 31 freshman and sophomores between the two teams' rosters. Four frosh players - one for Cornell and three for BU - started the game.
Cornell's Griffin LaDew led all scorers with 28 points and a team-leading seven assists. He also paced the Rams with seven rebounds.
Benedictine freshman Dan Klecan poured in 27 points of his own, scoring 24 after halftime. Klecan was eight-of-15 from the field, including five-for-11 from three-point range.
Joining Klecan in double-digit scoring for the host Eagles was Tim Swanson with 18, Jacob Carwell with 11 and Jared Bailey with 10 points. Bailey had game-leading totals for assists and steals, with eight and five, respectively.
Benedictine's 6'0" freshman guard Travis Wilson led all rebounders with 10 caroms. Wilson also contributed eight points.
The Rams received much of their scoring punch from the bench. Cornell's substitutes held a 34-to-15 point advantage in the point totals. Forrest Becker had 15 points and Jeff Bittner added 13 to lead the bench scoring, while starter Tyler Cody also chipped in 15 points to round out the Rams' double-figure scorers.
Both teams shot well from the field in regulation (Benedictine hit 50-percent and Cornell was at 48-percent). However, in the two overtimes, the Rams hit 57-percent, while the Eagles tapered off to 33-percent to close the game.
