Hayward, Calif. — Baruch lost a 76-68 first round tournament game to Chapman University on Friday night at the Pioneers Tip-Off Classic.

The Bearcats will play the tournament hosts Cal State - East Bay in the consolation game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. ET). Redlands defeated Cal State - East Bay to advance to the final at 6:00 p.m. against Chapman.

The game was filled with various momentum swings, beginning with Chapman (4-2) jumping out to an 18-6 lead early in the first half.

The Bearcats rallied (2-3) to take a four-point lead at halftime (40-36) behind 45 percent (15-33) shooting. That lead at one point in the second half grew to 11 points, but Chapman slowly broke down the lead and took over down the stretch behind 50 percent (13-26) shooting to clinch the 76-68 non-conference victory.

Chapman finished the game with 10 three-pointers on 21 attempts.

Myleka Garnett (Seaside, Calif./Seaside) led the Bearcats with 18 points, eight rebounds, and two steals in a solid evening at both ends of the court. Karlee Whipple (Lund, Nevada/Lund) scored 16 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Jody Trapp (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points.

Chapman, which played in last year's NCAA Tournament, were led by Nicole Hayman (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Troy) with 26 points, while Natasha Belou (Montrose, Calif./Crescenta Valley) recorded 20 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.
