LISLE, Ill. — Benedictine University sophomore guard Jared Bailey simply wouldn't let his team lose, as Benedictine University upset Coe College, 78-77, in overtime. It was just the second loss of the season for the Kohawks (8-2 overall), while the Eagles improved to 5-6 on the year.

Coe entered the game at Benedictine after scoring a big victory itself on Friday evening, defeating the University of Chicago (the nation's #20 ranked team). BU, on the other hand, went two overtime period the night before in losing to Coe's Iowa Conference mate Cornell College.

Bailey wasn't about to permit his team to suffer a second overtime defeat at the hands of Coe. Bailey hit 12-of-21 from the floor on his way to a career-high 33 points. He was also four-for-eight from three point range.

Eagles freshman Dan Klecan had another good outing against a foe from Iowa, adding 17 points and a team-leading seven rebounds to the Benedictine coffers. Klecan scored 27 points the previous night versus Cornell.

Freshman forward Jacob Carwell chipped in 13 points to round out Benedictine's double-figure scorers.

Benedictine held a surprising seven point advantage - 32-25 - at the half. However, in less than a minute-and-a-half of the second stanza, the Kohawks had knotted the game at 32-32 after Aaron Breitbarth (13 points, all in the second period) hit a trey at 18:35.

The game looked securely in Coe's grasp as the visitors built a 12-point bulge with, 56-44, with just 4:30 left to play.

However, Benedictine and Bailey were not finished. Bailey scored 16 points in the final 3:56 of regulation, including an 8-foot jumper from the right side as time expired to tie the game at 68-68.

In the overtime, the teams went back and forth before the Kohawks' Kyle Kuenstling - who had a team-leading 23 points himself - put his team up 77-76 with a layup with nine ticks left on the clock.

Bailey, who scored seven points in the OT, brought the ball upcourt for the Eagles. The 6'1" guard pulled up just in the middle of the lane and popped a short jumper with three seconds remaining to give Benedictine the 78-77 win.

Kuenstling had an all-around good game for Coe. In addition to his point totals, he had game high honors for rebounds (9), assists (7) and steals (4). He hit 10-of-15 from the field.
