Westminster (Pa.) 54, Penn State-Behrend 40

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — The Saint John’s University basketball team defeated Carleton, 65-60 at Sexton Arena to retain their standing atop the MIAC.

The first half was quiet one for both teams, with a halftime score of 33-23 in favor of the Johnnies. Carleton held junior wing Ryan Lieser (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) scoreless in the first half. Lieser picked it up in the second half, however, scoring his first basket at the 13:09 mark and went on to lead the Johnnies with 14 points. Senior post Craig Schafer (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) ended the game with 13 while junior post Jason Fogt (Askov, Minn./East Central) added 10 of his own. SJU held a 21-4 scoring advantage off the bench.

Carleton sophomore forward Zach Johnson (Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) led all scorers with 22 points and freshman forward Bryan Rosett (Cottage Grove, Minn./Park) added a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Knights.

Saint John’s (14-4, 12-1 MIAC) will play host to Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. in Collegeville. The Knights (7-11, 6-7 MIAC) will play host to Bethel for a 1 p.m. tip-off in Northfield.
