The Knights (0-2) lead by 12 at the half and by seven with four minutes left.
Carleton controlled play the entire first half and most of the season half before the Seasiders (2-1) used a 13-3 spurt over five-minute stretch to erase a 69-62 Carleton lead with 19 seconds left. Kamron Alborz\'s free throws with 18 seconds left tied the game, as Alborz tallied eight of the Seasiders\' final 13 points in regulation. On the ensuing possession, Carleton was called for a dubious foul after turning the ball over, but HPU missed on the front end of a one-and-one with 14 seconds left. Drake\'s long three-pointer at the horn was off and the teams headed to overtime.
The hosts took control in the overtime, leading by four before Phillips drained a three. HPU answered with a layup, but Drake\'s three-point play tied the game at 75-75 with 90 seconds left. Brandon Lee\'s leaner in the lane put HPU ahead with 20 seconds left. After a timeout, Carleton worked the ball on the weak side to Jay Melson, who was fouled. He missed on the first free throw with five seconds left and made the second. After Mickey Wheeler converted on both free throws with 3.9 seconds, Phillips\' 30-foot shot to tie the game at the horn was just off the front rim.
Carleton led from the openint tap, racing to an 18-7 lead as Drake scored 11 of Carleton\'s first 18 points and Johnson added five. The Knights extended the lead to as many as 13 before a Phillips triple gave the visitors a 42-30 lead at the half.
The Seasiders opened the second half on a 15-7 run, capped by a Wheeler basket, to pull within four six minutes into the second period. The Knights, though, answered with a Johnson three-point play and Phillips three-pointer after a Alborz bucket. The Knights\' lead moved back to 12 with less than six minutes left before the Seasiders final run.
The Knights shot a solid 53.5 percent from the floor and held a huge free-throw edge, as they were 21-for-26 compared to 8-fo-13 for the hosts. Carleton did face a 28-19 rebounding differential and allowed the Seasiders to shoot a sizzling 61.5 percent in the second half, including 4-for-7 from downtown. HPU missed only one of its five shots in overtime to beat the Knights for the sixth straight time, dating back to their first meeting in 1988.
Carleton ends it Hawaii road trip by facing Chaminade University on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 HST, or 11:30 p.m. CST.
