Hamline (4-8, 2-5 in the MIAC) forced the Knights (3-8, 2-4) into 9-of-31 shooting in the second half, including 4-of-19 from three-point range. Carleton led 65-61 with three and half minutes to play after a Hamline technical foul gave the Knights four free throws, but Carleton managed just 1-of-5 from the floor down the stretch.
The Pipers outscored the Knights 14-5 over the last 3:30 of the game. Down by four, sophomore Zev Kujolic pulled the Pipers within one with a three-pointer. On the ensuing possesion, the Pipers forced a turnover, and Sam Wiener's layup gave the Pipers the lead.
The Knight would briefly take the lead back before the Pipers scored back-to-back buckets by Tony Thrasher and Kyle Foster.
Foster paced the Pipers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. He scored 11 points in the first half with three three-pointers.
He led four Pipers in double figures. Sophomore Jon DeRock tallied 15 points. Wiener added 14 points, and Thrasher chipped in 13 points.
Guard Jake Phillips scored 20 points for Carleton. He was 6-of-12 from the floor - 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. Tommy Drake netted 14 points and Zach Johnson netted 12 - all in the second half.
The two teams were tied 38-38 at the break. Both teams shot the lights out from three-point range in the half. Hamline was 6-of-12 from three. Carleton made 7-of-13 atttempts in the first 20 minutes.
