Clinging to a 50-49 lead early in the second half, Buena Vista went on a 11-0 run over the next four minutes by hitting five of the six shots it took from the floor. The Beavers would lead by at least eight points the rest of the way. Dubuque, which led by as many as 10 points in the first half, was ahead 40-38 at halftime.
Margo Muhlbauer and Jen Schweitzberger each poured in 17 points to lead the Beavers. The scoring outburst was a career-high for Schweitzberger who also led the team with six rebounds. Jenn Schumann and Tracy Hartwig each scored a dozen in the win.
Jen Nichols led Dubuque with 15 points in only her second start of her career. Brittney Dickey added 14 points. Jennifer Bell registered 12 points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots.
Buena Vista was perfect at the free throw line. The Beavers nailed all 17 shots they took from the charity stripe. Buena Vista shot 53% from the floor and made half of the shots it took from beyond the arc.
Dubuque shot 46% from the field. After making five three-point shots in the first half, the Spartans only canned one in the second frame.
Buena Vista is now 10-6 on the year and 3-4 in the conference. Dubuque is 8-8 and 2-5 in the league.
Buena Vista will travel to Cornell College on Friday.
