Tied up at 66-66 with eight minutes remaining in the second half, the Beavers put together a 14-4 run to pull away from the Spartans and earn the nine point victory.
Andre Wagner and Ryan Dupic teamed up to lead Buena Vista with 16 point apiece. Kyle Stribe cracked into double figures with 11. The Beavers shot 50.0% from the field and connected on 18-22 opportunities (82.1%) from the free throw line.
Dubuque was led by Tyler Daugherty with 27 points. Nick Thomas put up 24 points and Norris Langford chipped in 15. The Spartans shot 46.6% from the field and made 15-19 (78.9%) from the charity stripe.
Buena Vista held a 40-29 rebounding edge, led by Matt Cleveland’s career high 10 boards. Brian Fogleman added seven. As a team, the Beavers also had 24 assists. Franklin had a career-high nine in the win.
The Beavers improve to 5-2 in the Iowa Conference and 10-5 overall. Dubuque drops to 2-5 in the conference and 8-8 overall.
Buena Vista will be on the road to Mt. Vernon on Friday to take on Cornell College. Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
