A closely battled first half saw the Beavers up 36-30 headed into halftime. Three minutes into the second half, Melissa Putney’s jumper sparked a 30-10 run for the Beavers to seal the game.
The Beavers jumped to an early 8-4 lead in the first three minutes of the game but the Oles fought back and the two teams traded leads. Jenn Schumann’s lay-up put the Beavers up by two in the middle of the first half and they never relinquished their lead.
Courtney Stoelk paced Buena Vista with 15 points on 4-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Jenn Schumann dumped in 14 points and Margo Muhlbauer added 12. Schumann had seven rebounds and Muhlbauer had four steals.
St. Olaf was led by Holly Grimsrud with 10 points and Laura Jorgensen with nine. Danielle Stoermer pulled down 10 boards.
Buena Vista, which held a 44-32 rebounding edge, is now 2-1 on the year. St. Olaf is 0-3.
Buena Vista travels to Nebraska Wesleyan University this Saturday. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
