STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Buena Vista University women’s basketball team fell to Coe College 74-56 on Saturday. Poor shooting from the field and a hot Kohawk team contributed to the loss for the Beavers.

The visiting Kohawks jumped out to the early lead but the Beavers tied it back up at 8-8 four minutes into the first half. After battling closely, the Kohawks took the lead for good halfway through the first half on a 10-2 run and took a 41-30 advantage into halftime.

The Beavers struggled to get their offense going in the second half and Coe held a double-digit lead for the entire second half to end the game at 74-56. It was the first victory for the Kohawks in Storm Lake since joining the Iowa Conference.

Tracy Hartwig led the Beavers with 12 points and Aubrey Hauswirth came off the bench to put in a career-high 10 points. Courtney Stoelk pulled down a career-high nine rebounds.

Amber Karkosh and Shanon Nelson registered double-doubles for Coe. Karkosh led all players with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Nelson had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Buena Vista shot a dismal 29.3% from the field and converted on 5-23 (21.7%) from the three-point line. Coe shot 44.6% from the field and made 17-24 (70.8%) from the charity stripe. The Kohawks made six three-point field goals in the first half alone.

The loss drops Buena Vista to 8-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Iowa Conference. Coe is 2-9 on the season and 1-2 in the conference with the win.

The Beavers will tip off at Central College on January 9 at 6:00 p.m.
