PELLA, Iowa — PELLA—Cold shooting stalled a Central College comeback as Loras College secured a 64-50 Iowa Conference women’s basketball victory Saturday.

Boasting a considerable size advantage, the Duhawks (11-9 overall, 7-4 conference) handily outrebounded Central 44-29 and shot 50 percent from the floor as Natalie Pucci led three double-figures scorers with 22 points. Meanwhile Central shot just 29.8 percent from the field, including 25.9 percent in the second half.

Central trailed 30-25 at halftime and was down 36-28 with 15:48 left but scored eight unanswered points, including four by guard Morgan Martin, to tie the score at the 13-minute mark. But Loras responded with an 8-0 run of its own. Central was still within 48-46 with 6:25 left before the Duhawks finished the game on a 16-4 spree.

Guard Aimee Schmidt and forward Emily De Jong each had 10 points for the Dutch wile forward Erin Benson had nine. De Jong and Benson each had five rebounds while guard Laura Porter had five assists.

The Dutch are off until Friday when they play host to Wartburg College in another league women’s-men’s twinbill starting at 6 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Live stats will be available throughout the game at the Central athletics Web site (www.central.edu/athletics). Wartburg was an 80-71 winner over Central Jan. 3 at Cedar Falls. The Knights are 11-11 overall and 6-7 in the league after an 83-66 decision over the University of Dubuque Saturday.
