STORM LAKE, Iowa — The Buena Vista University women's basketball team bounced back with a 65-60 victory over Cornell College on Friday night. With the win, the Beavers clinched a berth in the Iowa Conference Tournament.

With Buena Vista in front by one point with less than 40 seconds remaining, Jenn Schumann hit Aubrey Hauswirth on a backdoor cut. Hauswirth’s layup put the Beavers on top 63-60. Cornell did not get a good look and Margo Muhlbauer iced the game with two free throws.

Muhlbauer led Buena Vista with 23 points. Tracy Hartwig contributed 13 points and five assists, including the 200th of her career. Lindsey Meyer scored 11.

Cornell’s Tiffany Cowan led all scorers with 24 points. Val Marean added 16 points.

Both teams started the game sluggishly. Buena Vista misfired on its first 13 shots from the floor and both teams ended up shooting under 35% from the field for the game.

Buena Vista held a 51-31 rebounding advantage. Schumann led the way with a career-high 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Buena Vista is now 15-7 on the year and 8-5 in the conference. Cornell is 8-14 and 3-10 in the IIAC.

Buena Vista will host league-leading Luther College on Saturday in the regular-season home finale.
