OBERLIN, Ohio — Head Coach Isaiah Cavaco picked up his first career victory and the Yeomen earned their first win of the 2006-2007 season this evening in a 78-64 win over visiting Case Western Reserve University. Oberlin shot 14-26 from beyond the arc and tallied a 53.2 percent shooting percentage from the floor en route to the non-conference win. The Yeomen improved to 1-4 on the year, while the Spartans fell to 1-3.

Oberlin dominated in numerous areas tonight, most notably in shooting and fast-break play. The Yeomen racked up a very impressive 53.8 percent shooting percentage from three-point land, including 7-9 in the second half. The hosts also controlled the tempo of the game, out-scoring the Spartans 25-4 in fast-break points. Oberlin also took excellent care of the ball, committing a season-low nine turnovers.

Tonight's triumph in Philips Gymnasium was a remarkable improvement over last year's contest at Case. Last season, the Spartans defeated the Yeomen 96-74, making this evening's contest a significant milestone for the Oberlin men's basketball program.

Leading the Yeomen tonight were sophomore Mike Loll, senior Quinton Spencer, and junior Jordan Beard. Loll dominated the paint, grabbing a team-best nine boards, and also shot 4-7 from behind the arc for a team-high 20 points. Along with several deep treys and impressive blocks, Loll also had a breakaway dunk late in the second half to add insult to injury for the Spartans. After netting 17 points tonight, Spencer needs only 25 more points to reach the 1,000-point plateau. The senior captain also dished out a game-high six assists and pulled down five rebounds. Beard drilled a trio of three pointers to score 13 points.

Case Reserve was led by Mason Conrad, who scored a game-high 26 points on 10-14 shooting, most of which came inside the paint. The junior center also snagged a game-best 12 rebounds.

The Yeomen will next hit the hardwood on Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. home North Coast Athletic Conference showdown with Wabash College.
