McMurry 100, Hardin-Simmons 89

Indianola, Iowa — Jason Parkinson scored 25 points to lead Simpson (15-8, 10-4 IIAC) past Buena Vista (13-7, 8-4 IIAC) 68-59 Feb. 6 in Indianola. The teams played to a 34-34 tie heading into the halftime break. The first half featured a total of four ties and three lead changes. The game was tied three more times in the second half before the Storm took the lead for good on a David Ferezy jumper at the 8:37 mark of the closing frame. Simpson would use a 12-3 run to push the lead to 14, 62-48, with 2:05 remaining.

With Buena Vista fouling late in the game, the Storm looked to get the ball into Parkinson, a 73% career free throw shooter. The 6-4 guard made 4-of-6 from the charity stripe in the final minute of the game to seal the victory for Simpson over the Beavers since the 2003-04 season (a span of five games). Parkinson scored 15 of his points in the second half and was 7-of-10 from the field.

Parkinson was good on 9-of-11 free throw attempts. He was the only Simpson player to score in double figures, but was a balanced attack as 8-of-10 Storm players who entered the game scored at least two points. Ryan Hittenmiller and Ferezy each scored nine while Jason Soppe had eight points and eight rebounds.

Buena Vista shot 35.9% from the field (23-of-64), but did outrebound the Storm 41-39 and held a 14-9 edge in offensive rebounds. Brian Fogelman was 6-of-9 from the field to lead BV with 12 points. Ryan Dupic had 11 for the Beavers.
