Shots fell from everywhere for BV (13-6 overall, 6-4 Iowa Conference) as the Beavers hit 55.4 percent from the field including 56.3 percent (9-16) from 3-point range and 94.1 percent (16-17) from the free throw stripe. Buena Vista placed five players in double figures in avenging a 74-65 loss at Central Jan. 9.
The Beavers ran off the game’s first six points and sprinted to a 24-8 lead before the midpoint of the opening half. BV was up by as many as 24 points before taking a 48-31 advantage into the break. Central (5-15 overall, 3-8 conference) made an early second-half comeback to climb within 54-45 at the 15-minute mark but drew no closer.
Guard Morgan Martin had 10 points for Central while Emily De Jong and Sara Iverson each had five rebounds. Central shot 40 percent from the field and was outrebounded 45-29.
After three straight road games the Dutch are in Pella Saturday for a women’s-men’s doubleheader with Loras College, tipping off at 2 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. Loras defeated the Dutch at Dubuque Jan. 6, 63-52. The Duhawks knocked off second-place Simpson College Wednesday 73-70, moving to 10-9 overall and 6-4 in the league.
