The Buena Vista University men's basketball team fired in 15 three-pointers on its way to knocking off Wartburg College 90-77 on Saturday evening. The Beavers have now won four games in a row.
Buena Vista went on a 32-9 run to open the second half to overcome a 42-39 halftime deficit. The Beavers shot a sizzling 68% (17-25) from the field in the second half including 6-8 from behind the arc.
Travis Person led the Buena Vista offensive attack with a career-high 23 points to go along with three assists. He was lethal from long range as he buried seven of the 10 three-point shots he took.
Wartburg shot 54% (15-28) from the floor including 7-9 from the arc in the first half but cooled off significantly after halftime. The Knights made only 39% (11-28) of their shots in the second half.
Kyle Stribe scored a career-high 19 points for Buena Vista while making five shots from long distance. Brian Fogleman also contributed 19 points and a game-high four assists.
Cashes Mason led Wartburg with 21 points, 15 of which came in the first half. Nick Gullickson registered 17 points and a game-high seven rebounds as the Knights owned a 32-27 rebounding advantage.
Buena Vista improved to 12-5 on the season and 7-2 in the Iowa Conference. Wartburg is now 8-12 and 2-9 in the league.
