MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Kristina Stoermer (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Holly Grimsrud (Sr., Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa HS) hit the eventual game-winning basket with 31 seconds remaining in the game, giving St. Olaf College a 55-53 win over host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Trailing by three points with 2:18 left, Augsburg’s Kristina Lurken (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) tied the game at 51-51 with a three-pointer. But Grimsrud connected on a basket with 1:19 left to give the Oles a 53-51 lead. Augsburg’s Michelle Richter (So., Chaska, Minn.) was fouled and hit two free throws with 55 seconds left, and Grimsrud hit a jumper to give the Oles the final margin of victory with 31 seconds left. Augsburg had three chances to win the game in the closing seconds, but committed a turnover and missed two shots.

Danielle Stoermer (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) had eight points and six rebounds for the Oles (4-14 overall, 4-11 MIAC), while Grimsrud had eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Christina Sampson (Sr., North Branch, Minn.) had eight rebounds and five assists.

For Augsburg (1-17 overall, 1-14 MIAC), Richter led the way with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Katie LaGrave (Jr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) connected on three 3-pointers – all in the second half – and scored 13 points with six rebounds and two assists. Brietta Schluender (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored 11 points with six rebounds and two assists, and Lurken had seven points, six rebounds, nine assists and three steals.

Augsburg jumped out to a 10-point lead, 16-6, midway through the first half, but St. Olaf rallied back to take a 22-21 halftime advantage. The Oles scored the first six points of the second half to take their biggest lead at 28-21 with 17:32 left to play. There were six ties and seven lead changes in the game.

St. Olaf hit 33.3 percent (23-of-69) from the field and outrebounded Augsburg by a 50-43 margin. Augsburg hit 34.9 percent (22-of-63) from the field. St. Olaf took advantage of 21 Augsburg turnovers, converting them into 20 points, while Augsburg had 12 points off of 19 St. Olaf turnovers. St. Olaf claimed 32 points in the paint to Augsburg’s 24.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday (1/31) at 7:45 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Hamline and St. Olaf hosting St. Mary's.
