MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Jess Vadnais (Jr., Hudson, Wis.) became the eighth Gustavus Adolphus College player to reach the 1,000-point career scoring plateau, with a 20-point, 11-rebound performance Monday night, as her Gusties topped host Augsburg College 72-65 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Si Melby Hall.

Vadnais added four assists, a blocked shot and a steal for the Gusties, who improved to 14-2 overall, 11-2 in MIAC play. Vadnais now has 1,005 career points. Bri Monahan (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) led all scorers with 21 points, adding five rebounds, three blocks, three assists and two steals, and Julia Schultz (Fr., Marshall, Minn.) had 14 points and three assists.

Michelle Richter (So., Chaska, Minn.) and Katie LaGrave (Jr., Okinawa, Japan/Kadena HS) scored 15 points and had five rebounds each to lead Augsburg, now 1-15 overall, 1-12 in MIAC play. Richter added four steals.

Megan Krumrie (So., Elk Mound, Wis.) had 10 points and seven reobunds for the Auggies, and Kristina Lurken (Jr., Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) scored eight points with eight assists, six rebounds and three steals.

Apart from one tie, Gustavus led from start-to-finish in the game, pulling out to a 14-6 lead in the first 5:13 of play. However, Augsburg remained in the contest virtually the entire way, keeping the Gustie lead in single-digits during the first half, cutting the advantage to as close as three points. Gustavus led 39-32 at halftime. A 17-10 run gave the Gusties their biggest lead of the game, 56-42 with 12:46 left in the game, but the Auggies cut the lead back to single-digits in the final minutes.

Gustavus shot 43.3 percent (29-of-67) from the field, while Augsburg shot 46.7 percent (28-of-60). Gustavus hit 10-of-14 free throws, while Augsburg hit 6-of-9. Gustavus outrebounded Augsburg by a 41-34 margin, including 14 offensive rebounds, which the Gusties turned into 17 second-chance points. Gustavus had 42 points-in-the-paint, compared to Augsburg's 24.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Wednesday (1/24). Augsburg hosts St. Catherine at 7:30 p.m., while Gustavus hosts Bethel at 7:45 p.m.
