ST. PAUL, Minn. — Macalester picked up its third straight win and moved to 4-5 on the season by defeating the visiting Augsburg Auggies Saturday 59-53. The Scots attacked the glass, collecting 20 offensive boards, and out-rebounded their guests 53-43.

The Scots (4-5 / 2-4 MIAC) used balanced scoring, getting 13 points from Callie PaStarr and 12 apiece from Trina PaStarr and Danielle Johnson. Trina PaStarr enjoyed a strong all-around game, finishing with eight rebounds, five on the offensive end, four assists, two blocked shots and a couple steals. Johnson provided four steals and three assists. Macalester’s top rebounder was Elise Pagel with a game-high 11 boards.

Katie LaGrave knocked down four three-pointers and led all scorers with 20 points to pace Augsburg (1-8 / 1-5 MIAC). She was joined in double figures by Megan Krumrie with 12 points and Kristina Lurken, who finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.

Macalester out-scored Augsburg 24-14 in the paint and 15-4 on second chance points.

The Auggies scored the game’s first five points, but never led again after the Scots tallied the next 12 to go up 12-5 in the early going. Augsburg knotted things up at 37-37 with 13:15 to play before the Scots responded with a 13-4 run to go up by nine points at 50-41 with 7:38 left. The guests pulled to within three with 1:12 to play, but Mac iced the game with free throws.

Neither team shot well. The Auggies shot 30% and Mac was at 29%.

Macalester takes on MIAC leader St. Benedict Monday (Jan. 8) at home. Augsburg plays Monday at St. Thomas.
