Poor shooting (30%) by UD in the second half gave the Banana Slugs a chance to take the lead early in the period that they never relinquished. UD was able to close the gap to 1 point behind reserve guard Beth Teer’s 6 second half points, but UC-Santa Cruz countered with clutch shooting to pull out the 6 point victory.
4 players reached double-digit point totals for UC-Santa Cruz, including 17 from Kayleigh Calandri. Talia Joyce, Melissa Junge, and Megan Gaynor all scored 12 points. Gaynor also hauled down 10 rebounds.
Next up for the 9-11 Lady Crusaders is Sunday’s game with the Colorado College Tigers. Tip-off against the 7-10 Tigers is at 1:00pm.
