Norwich 91, Johnson State 86

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Jon Cassens (Fr., Prior Lake, Minn.) scored 15 points with four assists and two steals, leading the Augsburg College men’s basketball team to a 77-66 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest Monday night at Augsburg’s Si Melby Hall.

Mitch Dice (Jr., Savage, Minn./Bloomington Lutheran HS) scored 12 points, and Dan Graf (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and Darren Nelson (So., Richfield, Minn.) scored 10 points each as part of a balanced scoring attack for the Auggies, now 8-6 overall, 5-4 in MIAC play.

Luke Linz (Jr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) scored 16 points with six rebounds, Anthony Boike (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had 14 points and Cody Dyshaw (So., Montevideo, Minn.) had 12 points and four assists for Concordia, now 2-12 overall, 2-7 in MIAC play.

Augsburg led from start-to-finish in the game. The Auggies opened the game with an 11-4 run over the first eight minutes of play, and after Concordia cut the lead to one point at 13-12 with 9:53 left in the first half, the Auggies pulled away again, with a 15-4 run over the next three minutes to take a 12-point lead, 28-16 with 6:28 left in the opening stanza.

Leading 40-33 at halftime, Augsburg pulled away for good in the second half, building a lead of as many as 16 points in the second half. The lead did not dip below 10 points the rest of the way.

Femi Solaja (Jr., Cottage Grove, Minn./St. Paul Harding HS) scored nine points with seven rebounds, and Chuck Scott (Sr., Ely, Minn.), Justin Kozlowski (Jr., Wausau, Wis./Wausau Newman HS) and Zach Krumwiede (Fr., Trimont, Minn./Martin County West HS) had seven points each for the Auggies.

Brock Citterman (Jr., Ivanhoe, Minn./Lincoln HS) had seven points and three assists for the Cobbers, while Erik Johnson (Jr., San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry HS) had six points and three steals.

Concordia outrebounded Augsburg by a 39-29 margin and converted 16 second-chance points off of 14 offensive boards. Augsburg shot 48.1 percent (25-of-52) from the field and had 34 points in the paint, while Concordia shot 39.6 percent (21-of-53) from the field and had 24 points in the paint.

Both teams return to MIAC action on Wednesday (1/17) at 5:45 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Bethel and Concordia hosting St. Mary’s.
