Mount St. Joseph 72, Franklin 71

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Dan Graf (Sr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) collected a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, as host Augsburg College pulled away in the second half to claim a 65-45 victory over Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

Graf also claimed three assists, three steals and three blocked shots for the Auggies, now 6-3 overall, 3-1 in MIAC play. Darren Nelson (So., Richfield, Minn.) claimed a game-high 15 points for the Auggies.

Chuck Scott (Sr., Ely, Minn.) scored 10 points, and Mitch Dice (Jr., Savage, Minn./Bloomington Lutheran HS) had eight points and eight assists for Augsburg. Jon Cassens (Fr., Prior Lake, Minn.) had six points, six rebounds and eight assists, and Femi Solaja (Jr., Cottage Grove, Minn./St. Paul Harding HS) had five points and seven rebounds.

Hamline (3-7 overall, 1-4 MIAC) was paced by Sam Wiener (Sr., Marshall, Minn.), who had 10 points and three assists. Kyle Foster (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had eight points and seven assists, and Tony Thrasher (So., Hustisford, Wis.) and Jon DeRock (So., Buffalo Lake, Minn./Buffalo Lake-Hector HS) had six points apiece.

Augsburg rallied from an early five-point deficit, and used a 10-0 run over the final 3:23 of the first half to take the lead for good, 29-23 at halftime. A 16-5 run in the second half gave the Auggies a 21-point lead, 56-35 with 8:56 left in the second half, and the Auggies extended the lead to as many as 23 points in the closing minutes.

Augsburg shot just 28.1 percent (9-of-32) from the field in the first half, but shot 41.7 percent (15-of-36) in the second half to take the win. Augsburg also outrebounded Hamline by a 54-31 margin. Hamline shot 28.3 percent (17-of-60) from the field, including 0-of-17 from three-point range.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Saturday (1/6) at 1 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Macalester and Hamline playing at Concordia-Moorhead.
