Western New England 92, Fitchburg State 73

TIFFIN, Ohio — Capital University's women's basketball team suffered a 71-68 loss in overtime at Heidelberg College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in Tiffin.

Capital, winners in four overtime games this season, loses back-to-back games for just the second time this season to fall to 17-6 overall and 13-4 in the OAC. The Crusaders fall a game behind Wilmington College, 103-100 overtime winners at Otterbein, in second place in the OAC. Heidelberg evens its overall record at 12-12 and keeps its OAC Tournament hopes alive at 5-12 in the OAC.

Brittany Skolnicki had 21 points to pace three Heidelberg players in double figures, while Amanda Campbell had a game-high 12 rebounds as The Berg out-rebounded Capital, 37-33.

Sophomore forwards Caitlin Elsass and Daniele Manalac had 23 and 14 respectively to lead Capital.

Heidelberg jumped out early with leads of 17-7 and 19-9 in the game's opening nine minutes. Capital rallied to close the gap to three points, 29-26 when Manalac hit a free throw with 59 seconds left in the first half. Skolnicki then hit a jumper to give the Berg a 31-26 lead at the break.

The second half featured seven lead changes and nine ties the last of which came when Capital senior Ralphie Beal (Columbus/Columbus School for Girls) nailed a three with 1:51 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 58. Heidelberg missed a free throw and Capital failed on two trips in the final minute to send the game to an extra session.

Skolnicki started the overtime with a three-pointer and Heidelberg never looked back scoring its first win over Capital in seven games dating back to a win in the quarterfinals of the 2003 OAC Tournament.
