UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 25-9 run to close the first half propelled Capital University's women's basketball team to a 64-45 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over John Carroll University Saturday in University Heights, Ohio.

The Crusaders (14-4, 10-2 OAC) trailed 14-13 with 8:17 remaining in the first half when a layup by sophomore forward Caitlin Elsass sparked Capital's run. Freshman guard Kristen Richardson made a layup to give Capital a 10-point lead at 26-16, and sophomore forward Daniele Manalac closed the half out with a layup to send Capital into the break with a 38-23 lead.

John Carroll (6-13, 3-9 OAC) cut the deficit to 48-38 with 11:26 left in the game, but could get no closer as Capital's defense limited the Blue Streaks to just 30.9 percent shooting from the floor for the game. The Crusaders also outrebounded John Carroll by a 42-29 margin.

Elsass led all scorers with 15 points, Richardson scored 10 points to go along with four steals and senior guard Ralphie Beal scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Manalac finished with eight points and a game-best 10 rebounds, while the Blue Streaks were led by Rachael Price's 10 points and eight points from Whitney Hamilton.
