IRVING, Texas — The Hendrix College Women’s Basketball traveled to Irving, Texas for the weekend to compete in the 2006 New Year’s Challenge hosted by the University of Dallas. On Friday evening, the Warriors squared off against the United States Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point. In a game that was tight all the way through, it was the clutch free throw shooting of Senior Tori Huggins (Clinton, Ark.) that led the Warriors to the 75-71 victory. Huggins went 15 for 15 from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 33 points. She also went four for five from behind the arch to go along wit six rebounds. Sophomore Krista Goss (Ola, Ark.) followed behind with 12 points. The Mariners were led by junior Morgan Gartner (Houston, Texas) who had 15 points. The win helped improve the Warriors to 9-1 on the season and extend their winning streak to six games, while USMMA fell to 5-5.

The Warriors return to action tomorrow in Irving, as they take on host Dallas in a rematch from the Hendrix Tournament Championship from earlier this month. Tip-off is set for 5 PM.
