ALLIANCE, Ohio — Capital University sophomore Ross Niekamp and junior Ben Gunn set career-high marks in a 56-44 victory at Mount Union College in an Ohio Athleic Conference men’s basketball game Wednesday in Alliance, Ohio.

Niekamp led the Crusaders with a career-high 12 points while Gunn stuffed four shots to become Capital’s all-time blocks leader (84).

Capital extends a season-high winning streak to five games, stays in first place in the OAC at 11-4 and moves to 14-7 overall. The Raiders lose their eighth game in a row to drop to 8-14 overall (3-12 OAC).

After heading into the locker room at the break up 26-22, Capital broke out on a 7-0 run topped off by a lay-up by Gunn. Mount Union would move to as close as nine points with two minutes left in the game, however the Crusaders were able to fend off the Raiders for the win.

Jay Mathis led Mount Union with nine points, while Chris Switzer followed up with seven points.

Junior Steve Kyser put up nines point and four rebounds, while sophomore Quintin Mitchell put up eight points for Capital.
