COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Ursinus advanced one step closer to the Final Four on Friday night as the Bears (28-2) defeated Gettysburg (24-5) 79-55 in a NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Sweet 16 matchup at Helfferich Hall.

Ursinus, who has now won 21 straight games, will take on Coast Guard who defeated Rochester 57-48 in the first game of the day.

Ursinus was led by junior guard John Noonan (Havertown, PA/Friends Select) who had a game-high 22 points, with senior center Michael Shema (Geneva, Switzerland/Westtown) scoring a career-high 21 points.

For Gettysburg, junior guard Corey Dorsey had a team-high 17 points, with junior guard Dan Capkin scoring 14.

Gettysburg set the tone early, as the Bullets went up 10-2 to start the contest with 17:38 left on a three-pointer by Dorsey.

Ursinus responded with a 10-2 run of its own to tie the score at 12-all with 14:33 left on a pair of foul shots from sophomore guard Remy Cousart (Yardley, PA/Holy Ghost).

After a layup by Capkin with 14:20 left, Ursinus took the lead for good at 15-14 with 13:06 left on a three-pointer by Noonan.

Ursinus then went up by as much as five points with 11:19 left and never looked back.

Holding a 41-29 lead at halftime, Ursinus scored the first five points of the half to go up 17 points. The Bears held as much as a 27-point lead in the second half.

On the glass, Ursinus had a 42-32 advantage, with Shema grabbing a game-high ten boards. Freshman center Andrew Powers and junior forward Joe Spierenburg had seven rebounds each for the Bullets.

Cousart finished with a game-high seven assists, and had nine rebounds in the contest.
