WHITEWATER, WI
Senior forward Kyle White is going out in style. White scored a game high 33 points, including the winning three-pointer with six seconds left, to lead Loras College to a 71-70 win over UW-Whitewater in a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III regional semifinal at Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wis.
Loras, 22-6, will face Wheaton College (IL), 20-7 after a 93-83 overtime win over Lawrence in the other semifinal, for the regional title at 7:00 Saturday in Whitewater.
Whitewater started out quickly against the Duhawks, leading 9-2 at 17:12. Loras came back to knot it at 15-15, but the Warhawks went in to the locker room at halftime ahead 39-29.
Whitewater increased its lead to twelve, 43-31, but Loras chipped away at the lead, eventually tying the game at 57-57 at 7:26. The lead changed hands six times in the time remaining, including the game winner from White.
Junior guard Brian Centella pitched in with 14 points to help White, and junior forward Ricky Kolze added 11. White was 12-16 from the field, including 3-4 from the arc. He also led Loras with six rebounds. Junior guard Matt Goodwin paced UW-W with 24 points, 21 of them on 7-14 three point shooting. Junior backcourt mate Myles McKay scored 15 and led both teams with nine rebounds and four steals.
Loras shot 60% from the floor in the second half.
UW-Whitewater, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and postseason tournament champion, ends the season 24-5.
