Plattsburgh State 89, Oswego State 75
Mar 1, 2008

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — Most Valuable Player Anthony Williams poured in a game-high 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Travis Gorham recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds, as top-seed Plattsburgh State captured its third-straight State University of New York Athletic Conference Men's Basketball tournament title with an 89-75 victory Saturday afternoon over Oswego State in the championship game at Memorial Hall. The Cardinals become the first team to win three SUNYAC crowns since Buffalo State from 1995-97.

Plattsburgh earns the SUNYAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament--which begins March 6--after its 19th consecutive win to improve to 26-2. The Cardinals are nationally ranked 10th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 and NCAA East Region polls. The Lakers fell to 20-7 after making their first appearance in the SUNYAC Finals since 2005.

Kyle Reuter led a balanced Oswego offensive attack with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting, followed by Nick Perioli with 18, Tommy Downing had 12 and Mahamoud Jabbi, 11. Perioli also had seven assists, and Jabbi notched three more blocked shots to give him a conference-tournament record of 14.

In addition to Williams, Downing, Gorham, Hunt and Perioli, Sherod Harris of Brockport made the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team.

The teams played evenly for the first 15 minutes of the game with neither getting more than a five-point lead. But with 3 minutes and 42 seconds left and Plattsburgh up 25-24, Gorham made a layup to ignite a 14-0 run on the way to a 39-26 halftime lead. The Lakers never recovered from that and couldn't get any closer than six points in the second half.

Plattsburgh turned in its second-best field goal shooting performance of the season by making 30 of 53 shots for 56.6 percent, including 9-of-16 beyond the 3-point arc. The Cardinals also converted 80 percent of their free throw attempts. Oswego was 40 percent (26-65) from the field, and committed only two turnovers.
