PITTSBURGH, — ITTSBURGH - Uche Ndubizu scored a career high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the University of Rochester to a 74-67 victory over Carnegie Mellon.

Jon Onyiriuka had a dozen points. Dan Milbrand and Rob Dominiak scored 10 apiece. The Yellowjackets shot 56% from the floor and kept the Tartans to 44 percent.

Rochester held a 41-27 advantage off the glass. Head coach Mike Neer praised the rebounding work, particularly at Carnegie's end of the floor.

"We took notice that when Carnegie gets less than 10 offensive rebounds, they are 1-4," Neer said. "We worked at that." CMU grabbed eight offensive rebounds.

Rochester's game-breaking run was a 9-0 spurt in the final four minutes. Dominiak sank a three-pointer with less than four minutes to play, but Greg Gonzalez answered with a three from the top of the key for CMU to tie the score at 65-65.

On Rochester's next trip downcourt, Ndubizu fed a bounce pass to Onyiriuka for a dunk. The lead went to 669-65 on Ndubizu's layup with just under two minutes to play.

After a CMU miss, Ndubizu rebounded and was fouled. He sank the front end of a one-and-one at 1:28. He missed the second, but Dominiak got the rebound. The Yellowjackets anticipated a CMU foul and pulled Onyiriuka and Ndubizu. Carnegie chose not to foul and Rochester missed a jumper.

The Tartans rushed downcourt and Jack Anderson tried a three-pointer which was blocked by Dominiak. Juron grabbed the rebound and called for time, just before falling out of bounds. When the Yellowjackets inbounded against pressure, Mike Chmielowiec threw a long ball to Dominiak behind the defense for a layup (72-65). Juron sealed the win with two free throws in the last 10 seconds.

Neer has seen Ndubizu play very, very welll against the Tartans. "He had 11 offensive rebounds against them at the Palestra in December," Neer said, "and last year here, he scored 23 points. I was also pleased with how Dan Milbrand and Marcus Roberson filled in with good minutes - both rebounding and post scoring."

"I had this game in mind all week long," Ndubizu said. "My brother goes to Pitt and he was here today. This is a huge win."

Rochester finished the regular season at 20-5, 9-5 in the UAA. Chicago defeated Washington for the UAA title and Pool A bid. Brandeis finished third in the standings. Rochester is a Pool C candidate for the tournament and has been ranked second in the East Region for the last two polls.

"This is the kind of game you need going into the playoffs," Neer said. "Playoff games often go like this one did."
