Webster 86, Eureka 56
Feb 23, 2008

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Webster Gorloks opened the game on a 16-0 run and never looked back on its way to an 86-56 win over Eureka on Saturday afternoon at Grant Gym. With the win Webster set a new school record for wins in a season with 19.

The Gorloks (19-5, 15-0 SLIAC) shot nearly 46 percent (16-of-35) in the opening frame while holding the Red Devils (8-16, 8-8 SLIAC) to just 6-of-20 (30 percent) in the period. EC did not record its first points of the game until nearly seven minutes in while WU continued its barrage on the offensive end building the lead to 23-2 halfway through the frame. Ryan Turk and Darin Hoggatt led the way for Webster with 11 and 10 points respectively. The Gorloks controlled the boards grabbing 23 rebounds to only 14 for Eureka. WU turned 11 Red Devil turnovers into 17 points while dominating the paint 18-4.

Eureka got as close as 19 points early in the second half before Webster eventually went by almost 30 midway through the frame. The game would stay at right around the 30 point mark for the remainder as the Gorloks were able to get in everybody off the bench to pick up minutes and had 14 players score in the rout. WU shot a little better in the second half knocking down nearly 50 percent of its attempts (17-of-36) and continued doing a solid job on the defense end limiting Eureka to just 10-of-25 (40 percent) while out rebounding the Red Devils 46-28.

Turk led all scorers with 17 points and was joined in double figures by Brad Robinson with 14 and Hoggatt added 12 more. Hoggatt also moved to second on the school’s all-time scoring list passing Jeff Reis and now has 1,248 for his career.

Webster concludes the regular season on Tuesday evening against Westminster at Grant Gym beginning at 8 p.m.
