BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Moravian College women’s basketball team dropped its final home game of the 2007-08 regular season falling to The University of Scranton, 92-85, in double overtime in Johnston Hall Saturday evening.

The Greyhounds drop to the third seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament with the loss and will travel to Juniata College on Wednesday, February 27th for a Landmark Conference Semifinal beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Royals will host the United States Merchant Marine Academy in the other semifinal contest.

Moravian, which played against Scranton without starting forward Kirsty Stearns who was injured in practice on Thursday, jumped out to a 4-0 lead on baskets by senior guard LaToya Blake and sophomore forward Alyssa Bisci. The Royals would tie the game at 4-4 on a jumper by senior forward Michelle Fabio at the 16:34 mark. Scranton would take its first lead of the game on a jumper from freshman guard Megan Kopecki with 15:36 to play in the first half.

The game went back-and-forth for the next four minutes with the Greyhounds tying the game at 13-13 and pulling ahead 14-13 on a pair of free throws from sophomore guard Kate Harrison with 11:50 until the intermission. Moravian would hold a lead for the next 18 minutes of the game. Greyhound sophomore guard Amanda Brown connected on a three-pointer with 6:22 to go in the first half to give Moravian its largest lead of the first half, 11 points 30-19, and the Greyhounds would head to the locker room with a 38-28 advantage.

Moravian connected on 13 of 30 field goal attempts (43.3 percent), two of four three-pointers and ten of 11 free throws in the first 20 minutes of the contest. The Greyhounds did commit ten turnovers in the first half but forced Scranton into 15 turnovers. The Royals were 12 of 32 from the floor, one of six on three-pointers and three of five at the foul line in the first half, and Scranton has a 23-15 advantage on the boards.

Bisci scored the first points of the second half from Moravian, giving the Greyhounds a 12-point lead, 40-28, their largest of the game at the 18:22 mark. Scranton would go on an 18-6 run to tie the contest at 46-46 on a jumper by senior forward Kathleen Daly with 13:12 remaining. Brown hit another three-pointer to give Moravian a brief lead again but the Royals would move ahead on a Kopecki jumper with 12:05 remaining in regulation.

With the Greyhounds trailing 52-49 after a lay-up by Scranton junior center Molly Klusek, Moravian went on an 11-3 run pull ahead by seven points, 60-53, on a free throw by freshman guard/forward Emily Smith with 4:49 to play. The Royals would run off six straight points to cut the Greyhound advantage to just a point, 60-59, on a lay-up by freshman guard Colleen McLane with 2:20 to go.

However, the Greyhounds would build a five-point lead, 67-62, with 41 seconds remaining on a free throw by Brown. McLane hit a three-pointer with 33 seconds to go to cut the Moravian lead to 67-65, and a Greyhound turnover on the team's next possession allowed Scranton senior guard Stephanie Remington to hit a lay-up with 11 seconds remaining to tie the game at 67-67. Brown put the Greyhounds back in the lead with a pull-up jumper with five seconds to play.

Scranton would call a timeout with 4.9 seconds remaining in regulation, and after the timeout, Royal sophomore guard Ryan Mooney would dribble down the court and find Remington in the corner for a long jump shot. Remington's shot appeared to come after the buzzer but was ruled good by the officials, who also ruled Remington's foot was on the three-point line, tying the contest at 69-69 and forcing the overtime session.

Scranton was 14 of 33 from the field, two of nine on three-pointers and 11 of 19 at the foul line in the second 20 minutes of the game while the Greyhounds were 12 of 32 from the floor (37.5 percent), one of one on three-pointers and just six of 11 at the foul line. Moravian entered the game as the seventh ranked free throw shooting team in the nation at 75.4 percent.

Remington needed just 15 seconds into the first overtime to give Scranton a 71-69 lead on a jumper. However, Moravian would hit four free throws, two each by Brown and Harrison, to pull ahead 73-71 with 3:54 to go. Kopecki would convert on a three-point play at the 3:35 mark to put the Royals ahead again, 74-73. Moravian responded with a pair of Bisci free throws and a Smith lay-up to take a 77-74 lead with 2:11 to play in the first overtime. Fabio would connect on three of four free throws for Scranton to tie the game for the 12th time at 77-77 with 43 seconds remaining.

However, the Greyhounds pulled back out in front on a jumper by Harrison with 18 seconds left in the overtime session. Scranton would get a pair of shots off in the final five seconds before the ball went out of bounds off of the Greyhounds with 1.4 seconds to play. Mooney's inbound pass found Remington driving through the lane, and Remington's jumper fell through the rim as time expired, tying the contest against at 79-79 and forcing another five-minute overtime period.

At the start of the second overtime, Klusek scored five straight points for Scranton as the Royals jumped out to an 84-79 lead. Moravian would pull within two points, 84-82, on a Brown three-pointer with 2:48 to play, but Scranton would prove to be too much after Harrison foul out for the Greyhounds, leaving Bisci as the only normal starter on the floor.
