Rochester 92, Case Western Reserve 71
Feb 22, 2008

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Helen Baroody scored a career high 20 points and led four Yellowjackets in double figures as Rochester defeated Case Western Reserve, 92-71, at the Palestra.

Alex Porter had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Jessica Waddell had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Courtney Donovan had 10 points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Case had four double-figure scorers as well. Caitlin Henry scored 21 points, including four of Case’s 12 three-point goals. Ashleigh Tondo had 20 points. Ashley Horton scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Mary Herendeen scored 11 points. Tondo and Herendeen sank three three-pointers apiece. Case’s total was one shy of the single-game Palestra record of 13, set by Rochester in the NCAA playoffs in 2006.

Rochester improved to 19-4 overall, 9-3 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets are tied for first place with Washington (which defeated Brandeis) and Chicago (which defeated NYU). Brandeis is a game back at 8-4.

Case is 11-12 overall, 4-8 in the UAA.

Four different players contributed to a 10-2 run early in the game that pushed Rochester ahead, 20-9, with five minutes gone. The lead eventually grew to 15, 39-24, on Donovan’s mid-range jumper with 5:35 left in the half. Case closed with a brief flurry – a three-pointer from Herendeen and a layup by Horton – to pull within 45-37 at halftime.

Horton’s layup and free throw early in the second half pulled Case within seven, 47-40. Waddell scored six points in the next 3:23 as part of a 14-2 run that put Rochester in front, 61-42, with 15:04 left in the game.

Rochester got 33 points from its bench and scored 31 points off 20 Case turnovers. The Yellowjackets made 16 steals – eight players had one or more.
