ST. LOUIS,
The Maryville University women's basketball team was able to pull off a 67-60 victory versus the Gorloks of Webster University to keep their regular season conference win streak alive. Webster started off strong and quickly took the lead. The Gorloks led by as many as three points in the first four minutes, while Maryville tied the game twice in that same time span. It wasn't until the 13:00 minute mark that the Saints jumped ahead, as junior Allie Wilhelm hit a shot to make the score 8-6. That started a 21-3 Saints run and brought the two teams to 4:22 in the first half.
After scoring only one field goal in almost a 10-minute span, Webster went on a 14-2 run to end the half and trailed by only 12 points heading into halftime. Maryville scored 24 points off 20 Webster turnovers and also received 17 points from the bench in the first half.
Webster came out ready to play in the second half and quickly cut the Saints lead to single digits less than four minutes in. Junior Megan McCabe scored six of the Saints final eight points of the game to help her squad hold on for the victory.
McCabe finished with a team-high 18 points and also added seven steals, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Wilhelm and junior Kim Douglas chipped in with 13 points apiece, while Wilhelm and junior Samantha Maines grabbed six and five rebounds respectively.
Webster was led by Julie McGirl with a game-high 21 points and five assists. Michelle McQueen added 12 points, six rebounds and four steals, and Katy Meyer had 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
