Maryville (Mo.) 101, Westminster (Mo.) 62

The Maryville University women's basketball team had five players score in double figures as they defeated Westminster College (Mo.) 101-62 en route to their 12th consecutive victory. The Saints, who now stand at 16-3 overall and 11-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), extend their regular season conference win streak to 71 games, just one win shy of tying the all-time NCAA Division III women's basketball record of 72 games.
Maryville established their domination early in the game, as they started with a 10-0 run right from the tip. The Saints continued to build on their lead and took their largest lead of the half (21 points) heading into halftime as junior Megan McCabe hit a jumper at the buzzer. Head coach Chris Ellis' squad had 22 points in the paint and 19 points off turnovers in the first half, while shooting 20-of-40 (.500) from the field, 5-of-12 (.417) from behind the arc and 7-of-10 (.700) from the charity stripe.
In the second half it was all Saints, as Maryville extended its lead to as many as 45 points. The Saints continued to shoot well and finished 40-of-77 (.519) from the field, 10-of-20 (.500) from three-point range and 11-of-14 (.786) from the free throw line. They also out rebounded the Blue Jays 40-30 and forced a total of 38 turnovers.
Junior Allie Wilhelm led the Saints with 15 points on 6-of-9 (.667) shooting from the field. Junior Courtney Bergheger added 14 points, while senior Toni Picerno chipped in with 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Picerno and McCabe also each tallied a team-high four assists and four steals. Juniors Sara Wemlinger and Kim Douglas finished with 11 points a piece, and Wemlinger also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Westminster was led by Ashley Stanfill with 11 points. Markie England grabbed seven rebounds, and Brittney Scott dished out a game-high six assists.
The Saints will look to tie the all-time NCAA Division III women's basketball regular season conference win streak of 72 games on Saturday, February 9, when they travel to Greenville College for a 3:00 pm SLIAC game with the Panthers. Maryville's last conference loss was a 80-67 decision at Greenville on February 27, 2003.
