UNION, N.J. — Senior center Chari’ Cooper (Paulsboro, N.J.) recorded 15th double-double of the season and moved into fifth place in NCAA Division III career rebounding to help lead the sixth-ranked Kean University women’s basketball team to a 88-44 victory over visiting Rutgers University-Camden in New Jersey Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.

Cooper had 10 points and 12 rebounds, giving her 1,380 career rebounds to move into the top five on the NCAA all-time charts. Sophomore guard Cardiss Jackman (Tobyhanna, Pa.) led the Cougars with 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor.

The Cougars (20-1, 8-1 NJAC) placed five players in double-figures en-route to recording their 20th win of the season and 15th straight victory. Senior guard Imani Hafiz (Franklinville, N.J.) led the Scarlet Raptors (7-14, 1-8 NJAC) with a team-high 12 points and seven rebounds.

In the opening half, Kean used an 18-2 run to build a 24-8 lead with 12:15 left. The Cougars extended the lead to 25 points on a lay-up by sophomore guard Colby Greenlee (Stroudsburg, Pa.) to take 45-20 lead at halftime.

Jackman led all scorers with 13 points in the opening half, while Rutgers-Camden guards Amber Parker (Pennsauken, N.J.) and Jasmine White (Camden, N.J.) each tallied six points.

The Cougars continued to build on their lead in the second half, as the 44-point margin of victory was Kean’s largest lead of the evening.

In the game, Kean scored 49 points off of the Scarlet Raptors’ 42 turnovers and held a 62-16 edge in points in the paint.

Junior guard Melissa Beyruti (Union City, N.J.) scored 12 points and dished out a game-high six assists, while freshman forward Tiffany Patrick (Piscataway, N.J.) hit 6-of-10 shots from the floor en-route to 12 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Freshman guard Angelica Bermudez (Belleville, N.J.) scored 11 points in 14 minutes off the bench to round out the Cougars in double-figures.

For Rutgers-Camden, freshman Karima Blackwell (Somerdale, N.J.) had seven rebounds, while White finished with seven points, including a pair of three-pointers.

Kean returns to action on Saturday, February 9, when the Cougars host Rutgers-Camden in a key NJAC cross-over game at 1 p.m.. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association “Think Pink” initiative. All ticket sales and proceeds from the sale of “Kean Blue Thinks Pink” t-shirts and bracelets will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
