ASHLAND, Va.
ASHLAND , Va. – Reigning National Player of the Year Ben Strong (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) tallied game highs of 21 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in Guilford College ’s 69-51 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball victory at Randolph-Macon College Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers (13-4, 8-2 ODAC) jumped out to an early 10-point lead in the opening minutes of the game when Ray Edmond (Winston-Salem, N.C./North Forsyth) knocked down a three-pointer to make the score 12-2 with 14:17 remaining.
The Yellow Jackets rallied and cut the lead to 18-13 when David Carlson ( Woodbridge , Va. / Flint Hill School) drained a trifecta with eight minutes left in the half.
Guilford responded with a 12-4 run to open up a 34-23 halftime advantage. Edmond closed the half by just beating the buzzer on a lay up off a long outlet pass from Strong.
The Quakers put the game away early in the second stanza, scoring 11 of the first 16 points of the half, taking a 45-28 edge on a bucket by Tyler Sanborn (Elkin, N.C./Elkin) with 12 minutes left in the game.
Randolph-Macon (13-4, 7-3 ODAC) was paced by Justin Short (Chesterfield, Va./Manchester), who had a team-high 15 points. Jordan Brown (Chesterfield, Va./LC Bird) scored 14 points in his first collegiate start. The Jackets made 18-of-55 shots from the field (32.7%), including 7-of-25 from three point range.
Guilford got strong contributions from seniors Erik Belkoski (Rockingham, N.C./Richmond Senior) and Caleb Kimbrough (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill), who joined Strong in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Strong recorded his sixth double-double in seven games and his team-leading 13 th of the season. The Quakers made 23-of-48 (47.9%) shots on the afternoon and converted 18-of-20 free-throw attempts.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Sunday when they host Emory & Henry College at 2:00 p.m. in Ashland. Guilford visits Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
