Wesleyan 66, Baldwin-Wallace 64 Junior point guard Emily Clark missed an eight-foot runner with two seconds left after senior wing Jessica Viertlboeck canned two free throws with 21 seconds remaining to give the Bishops the win. Ohio Wesleyan improves to 25-6 and now advance to the national semifinals next Friday night in Danbury, Conn. The Yellow Jackets (27-3) led early at 2-0 but Ohio Wesleyan took over and built its lead to as many as five points on three separate occasions with the last time being at 28-23 with 2:16 left. The Yellow Jackets then battled back and tied the game at the halftime buzzer at 32-all when sophomore Natalie Winkelfoos hit a three-pointer. To start the second half, the Bishops went on a 13-2 run extending their lead to 11 points at 45-34 with 15:52 left. The Yellow Jackets then outscored Hardin-Simmons 16-5 to tie the score at 50-all with 8:51 left when Clark made a free throw. The two teams battled back and the lead changed three times over the last nine minutes before Viertlboeck canned the winning free throws. Despite the loss, B-W was led by senior two-time All-OAC forward Jenny Nance with 18 points. Winkelfoos had 16 points, senior three-time All-OAC guard Kim Luthman and sophomore Holly Koepp each had 10 points. Koepp also had a team-high eight rebounds. Ohio Wesleyan was paced by Viertlboeck with a game-high 28 points, including 14-for-15 from the free throw line. Katy Sturtz scored 23 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. |
