EWING, N.J. — Messiah advanced to the Final Four for the first time in program history as they defeated New Jersey in the NCAA Division III Atlantic Sectional championship 72-61. With the win, Messiah is now 26-4, while TCNJ's season ends at 25-4.

MC has now won 18 of its 19 contests and three in a row entering next week's Final Four, while TCNJ's 16 game win streak comes to an end as well as its home win streak that stood at 15 contests. The 26 wins for the Falcons is a new school mark for victories in a single season.

Messiah led 36-31 at the half as senior center Amy Hitz (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury) had 11 first half points. MC led by as many as 11 points in the first half, 30-19 (5:03), but a late half run by TCNJ's senior guards Laura Buckley and Karen Geiger with a pair of three-pointers, cut the Falcons' lead to three points, 34-31. Junior guard Melissa Ehst added a layup with :17 to extend the lead back to five for MC entering the locker room.

The Lions would try to claw their way back into the contest, but were never able to get closer than five points, 66-61 (0:59) in the end as the Falcons finished the contest shooting 50.0% from the floor (26-for-52) and held the Lions to a 41.7% effort (25-for-60) and just 37.5% (12-for-32) in the second half.

Hitz would finish with 15 points, while the Falcons had five players in double digits. High scorer for MC was Ehst with 18 points as she hit four of five three pointers to lift her squad. Sophomore Christina Vouriotis added 14 points, including 10 in the second half.

TCNJ's Buckley would finish her career with a game-high 22 points, just one shy of tying her personal best, while her seven rebounds was a career and team high on the night. Buckley ended her career with 616 points, while fellow seniors, Leigh Beierschmitt and Geiger all saw their careers finish on Saturday as the team finishes the season tied for fifth best and advanced farther than any previous TCNJ team. Beierschmitt had six points and boards in the loss and collected 365 points and 2-1 rebounds on her career, while Geiger connected for 11 points in the loss and ends her two-year TCNJ career with 267 points.

Messiah will meet Ohio Wesleyan University in the national semifinals.
