Jersey 68, Elizabethtown 45 TCNJ rode the performance of rookie forward Laura Mala, who scored nine first-half points en route to a career-high 12. TCNJ (25-3) limited the Blue Jays to an 11.5% shooting from the floor (3-for-26) as well as an 0-for-9 effort from three-point range. Another Lion rookie, forward Liz Martin had a career-high as well en route to her fourth double-double of the season. She led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down 10 boards in leading the Lions to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history. The Lions finished the contest with a 51.1% shooting performance from the floor as they were 24-for-47 from the field. The Lions also hit 16 of 19 free throws on the night, while limiting the Blue Jays (20-6) to a 17.7% effort in the loss (11-for-62). Elizabethtown's senior guard Abbie Fabian had just five points in her career finale, but finished her career with 1,503 career points, which is third best in Elizabethtown school history. Another Blue Jay senior Carmen Chiles had eight points and also moved into 14th place on the Etown all-time scoring list with 1,200 points. Sophomore center Whitney Bull led her team with a double-double of her own on 15 points and 10 rebounds. TCNJ eighth-year head coach Dawn Henderson said of her team's performance, "Regarding the first half performance, I was surprised as anyone. "We played very good defense and rebounded the ball well. We did a nice job looking for one another and it showed. It was a total team effort and I am very proud of the team for what they have accomplished." |
