Second-round
game stories Saturday, March 3, 2001 Washington
U. 87, UW-Eau Claire 67 The Blugolds missed 11 of their first 12 shots and committed five turnovers in the first 9:04 of the contest as they fell behind, 25-3. Later in the half, Washington University led 43-18, before settling for a 47-25 margin at intermission. Sophomore Jennifer Rudis scored a career-high 20 points, including 12 in the first half, while Tasha Rodgers added a game-high 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. The Bears led 47-25 at halftime, thanks in part to 54% shooting in the first stanza. WU's defense also helped, holding the Blugolds to 25% shooting in the first half and just 29% for the game. Eau Claire had an 11-1 run in the second half to pull within 15 with 12 minutes remaining, but the Bears next three trips down the floor resulted in free throws, which the Bears hit five-of-six. The Bears regained the momentum and never looked back. Washington now advances to the Sweet Sixteen next weekend, at a site to be determined. |
