79, Swarthmore 58 Etown surged to a 22-7 lead in the first 9:01 of play behind the shooting of Whitney Bull and Abbie Fabian, who scored eight points each in the first nine minutes. Etown went ahead by 15 again on a layup by Fabian with 8:52 remaining in the first half to make the score 26-11. Swarthmore came back and outscored Etown 15-9 for the rest of the half, cutting the deficit to 35-26 by halftime. Swarthmore cut the lead to seven when a five point run by the Garnet's Heather Kile made the score 40-33 in Etown's favoer with 16:37 left to play. The Garnet would get no closer as Etown followed with a 19-5 run to make the score 59-38 with 8:25 left in the game. Fabian led Etown in both scoring with 25 points and assists with six. Fabian also had three steals, increasing her career total to 319 and putting her only four swipes away from tying the Elizabethtown career record. Fabian's 25 points also increases her career scoring total to 1,498, moving her into third place on the school's all-time scoring list. Carmen Chiles added 19 points for the Blue Jays, and Bull totaled 12 points for the game and led the team with 10 rebounds. Sarah Tufano led Swarthmore with 18 points, and Kile and Katie Robinson each led the Garnet with seven rebounds. Kile also scored 16 points. Elizabethtown will return to action in the NCAA regionals Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10. Location and game times are to be determined, and Elizabethtown will play New Jersey (24-3). |
